BC invited 95 candidates in the BCPNP Tech Pilot
British Columbia held a new invitation round in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Tech Pilot. In this draw, the BC invited 95 candidates to apply for the nomination of British Columbia in four categories: Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate, Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker, and Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate. The lowest score was of this round increase by 5 points – from 75 to 80 points. In 2021, British Columbia invited 1,934 candidates and 417 of them have been invited under the Tech Pilot.

Canada is now the most popular relocation destination for foreign workers
Canada has overtaken the United States as the most popular destination for potential immigrants. A global survey of 208,807 job seekers in 190 countries shows that Canada is currently the most popular destination for international workers, and more so than the United States. 24% of those surveyed said they wanted to move to Canada and 20% to the United States or Australia. However, none of the Canadian cities were among the top 10 most popular places. Toronto is 14th, Vancouver 20th and Montreal 24th. The leaders were London, followed by Amsterdam and Dubai. According to the survey, “Canada is the top priority location for many IT specialists, individuals with master’s or Ph.D. degrees, and those younger than 30.”

The door for temporary foreign workers remained open in 2020
According to the official data by IRCC, in 2020, Canada issued 215,080 work permits under the “Canadian interests” category. This category includes sportsmen, scholars, culture workers, and international graduates. This number is only 8% lower compared to 2019 when 233,430 work permits were issued. As for farmworkers, they made up the second-largest group. IRCC issued 54,145 work permits, a 6.1% decline compared to 2019. The number of TFW who needed LMIA dropped by 13% from 35,365 in 2019 to 30,890 in 2020. The biggest decline was for foreign workers under trades agreements and caregivers, whose number dropped by 31% and 49%, respectively. In total, 322,815 foreign nationals received a work permit under various temporary foreign worker programs, 10% less than in 2019.
